Abstract
551,349. Dish-washing machines. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. (Aktiebolaget Elektrolux). Oct. 16, 1941, No. 13328. [Class 138 (i)] In a dish-washing machine of the kind having a movable spraying member and a housing rotatable about its own axis and enclosing a member such as a pump wheel for circulating liquid through the machine, the pump housing is rotated by the circulating liquid and is connected by a transmission element to the spraying member, the path of movement of which is defined by guide members. The base of the washer is shaped to provide a sleeve 14 rotatably supporting a pump housing 15 surrounding a pump wheel 16. Above the pump wheel a valve 20 is urged to closed position by a spring 22 and can be opened by a lever 25 to open a passage to the compartment containing the support 12 for the dishes. The pump delivers to a tubular member 38 forming a pivot for a lever 39, 49, the first part 39 being hollow and delivering to a rectangular spraying pipe 45. The pipe 45 is free to travel at right angles to itself to and fro across the washing compartment and is guided by a rail 47. The pump wheel is driven by a belt 31 and an electric motor 32. As it is driven the drag of the water rotates the housing 15 causing the pivot 38 to move in a circular path. Stops 51, 52 co-operate with a roller 50 at the end of the lever to swing this when the spraying pipe is at its central position. In a modification a pivot 71 rotated similarly to the member 38 is connected by a hollow link 72 to a spraying ring 75 restrained to travel in a rectangular path with rounded corners determined by cooperating guide rails 82, 84. The guide rail 82 may be toothed to rotate a pinion 81 so that the spraying ring rotates as its axis travels, or the pinion may be driven by friction. With the object of assisting the movement over dead points, and of acting as a brake at certain parts of the path, a piston 87 in a cylinder supplied with water from the pump through a ball valve 91 bears against a projection on the side of the link 72. The ball valve is prevented from completely seating by an adjustable pin 92.
