Abstract
551,231. Wireless transmitting and receiving apparatus. FLETCHER, H. Nov. 26, 1941, No. 15222. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] An electrical tuning system comprises two pretuned circuits designed so that for a frequency other than their common resonance frequency one of the circuits becomes inductively reactive and the other circuit becomes capacitatively reactive, and means are provided whereby the intercoupling of the two circuits can be varied to balance these reactances of different sign to enable the combined circuits to be brought into resonance at any one of a number of frequencies. Fig. 4 shows the invention applied to coupling an aerial 15 to the output 14 of a transmitter 13. An inductance 17 is tuned by a condenser 18 to parallel resonance at the mid-frequency of the desired tuning range. The aerial 15 is tuned by a coil 16 to series resonance at the same frequency. At any other frequency one of the circuits becomes inductive and the other becomes capacitative according as whether the frequency is above or below the mid-frequency. The adjustable tap 19 enables these opposite reactances to be neutralized to tune the combined circuits to any 'desired frequency in the range. The tap 20 is chosen to match the output to the transmitter. The invention is also applicable to the input coupling of a receiver.
