Abstract

550,996. Casting-machines. JAMES & CO. (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd., and ANDREWS, H. Aug. 1, 1941, No. 9832. [Class 83 (i)] In a centrifugal machine for casting cylinder liners, piston-ring pots &c. having members axially movable within a hollow main shaft for actuating the end ring and ejector, as described in Specifications 418,761 and 418,808, these members are moved axially by mechanism coupled to operating means located at one side of and adjacent to the front of the machine. Where a split mould is used the mechanism which operates the end ring may serve also to open and close the mould. The machine may be constructed as described in Specification 550,997, the sprockets 42, 49 thereof being connected by chains to sprockets 51, 55, Fig. 5, on shafts 52, 56 mounted in a frame 53 and operable by capstans 54, 59. The sprockets 42 may however be operated by motor instead of by hand, the main switch being adjacent the capstan 59, limit switches, actuated by collars moving axially With the end ring, also being provided. The frame 53 may also carry the main motor 61 and its switch 60 and a lever 62 which operates a brake. to bring the main shaft and mould to rest, and a cut out switch 65 in the circuit of the main motor. Other switches in this circuit may be operated by parts movable with the end ring and with its lowering mechanism, described in Specification 550,997 to prevent the mould from being rotated until the ring is in position and the lowering mechanism moved out of the way.
