Abstract
550,445. Anchor lock nuts. HALL & KAY, Ltd., and WHITCOMBE, C. J. May 3, 1941, No. 5773. [Class 89 (i)] Self-locking nuts for riveting into work have an extension 15, of less diameter than the body of the nut so that a shoulder is formed for an abutment in riveting the nut to the work, in which lateral slits 16, 17 are formed communicating with radial slits 18, 19 the resulting tongues 20, 21 being depressed either towards or away from the body of the nut or radially inwards. The extension 24 for riveting may have a square shoulder but the shoulder is preferably undercut at 25, Fig. 6, and the mouth of the face is flared so that the work may be flush when riveted up. Sufficient of the face is unthreaded to avoid thread distortion during riveting. The shoulder 25 may be provided with projections or recesses to anchor the nut against rotation. In a modification only one tongue is employed and in a further modification four tongues are made so that two face in each direction, those in which the free end leads, in the direction of screwing up, not being deformed.
