[Class 41] Halogenated organic hydroxy compounds such as glycerol mono-chlor-or brom-hydrins are produced at the anode by the electrolysis of dilute aqueous solutions or mixtures of unsaturated aliphatic or alicyclic alcohols, for instance allyl alcohol, and alkali metal halides, such as sodium chloride or bromide, in cells divided by a porous or semi-porous asbestos or like diaphragm, into anode and cathode compartments.
