Abstract

549,707. Charging batteries. OLDHAM & SON, Ltd, and MILLER, R. S. April 2, 1941, No. 4396. [Class 38 (iv)] In charging a number of batteries in parallel an artificial load is automatically substituted for a battery when it is removed from a charging board so that the variation in charging voltages on the board is reduced. The battery, when applied to charging terminals, e, g, may engage the head k of a spring controlled rod h carrying a collar o normally engaging pins p whereby a resistance q is connected across the bus-bars. Alternatively, the coil of a relay may be connected in shunt with the battery charging contacts so as to be fully energized when the battery is removed and thereby to close contacts connecting a resistance across the bus-bars. In addition a manual rheostat may be connected across the bus-bars to enable the artificial load to be adjusted and secure a suitable charging voltage. Specification 549,708 is referred to.
