A resistor having a negative temperature coefficient is connected in circuit with a battery (the rate of discharge of which is high, i.e. complete discharge in a few minutes) and load and its high initial resistance compensates for the high initial terminal voltage of the battery. Embodiments which vary the degree and persistence of the compensation include finning the resistor, encasing it in a liquid or shunting it electrically with an ordinary resistor. The resistor may be mounted on or within the battery casing.
