Abstract
549,398. Flame-dampers. FLATT, A. July 23, 1941, No. 9275. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXI] A flame-arrester for the exhaust or inlet pipes of compression-ignition engines, of the kind composed of a number of annular discs 1 . assembled so as to afford lateral passages between them for the exhaust gas or air, has the discs clamped together, so as to constitute a removable unit, between end plates 2, 3 by means of bolts 4, the upper plate 2 forming a closure, and the lower plate 3 having a flange 3a entering an opening. 6 in the housing. The upper end may be further fitted with a lid 13 having recesses 14 for receiving the heads of studs 7 securing the unit in position. A lateral pipe connection 17 is provided on the housing for the gases. An intermediate plate 10 fitting over enlargements 12 on the bolts may be provided.
