[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Groups XL and XXXVI] An open wire radio-frequency transmission system includes festoons of wire 2A, 2B suspended from its conductors 1A, 1B and electrically connected thereto by metallic clamps 3. The festoons are of a uniform length which is a small fraction of the operating wave-length while the sag is about the same as the spacing of the conductors. This arrangement enables the characteristic impedance of the line to be matched to a load.
