Abstract

676,306. Impedance networks. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 10, 1950 [July 9, 1949], No. 18196/49. Class 40 (viii). A signal transmission arrangement comprises a resistive load impedance and a source of energy whose resistive impedance is matched to the load at two frequencies by a length of transmission line connecting the load and source, an impedance being connected in shunt with the source to balance out the reactance produced by this arrangement at the two frequencies of operation. The Specification contains a mathematical treatment for obtaining the required values of the parts of this circuit for particular cases. The impedance in shunt with the source may be a short-circuited section of line. In order to avoid too high a ratio of transformation in one step, as shown, a number of short-circuited lines Z20, Z21 and Z22 may be arranged at intervals along the line connecting terminals 2 and 3, to which the source is connected, with the resistive load 1. Each short-circuited line with its accompanying section of the transmission line acts to transform a resistive impedance and balance out reactance as in the simple case first described.
