Abstract

548,968. Transmission systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Feb. 28, 1941, No. 2717. Convention date, Feb. 29, 1940. [Class 40 (iv)] In an arrangement for separating the lower frequencies (say 0-400) from the upper frequencies (say 400-10,000) in a transmission circuit 7, 8, a rough separation is effected by low and high-pass filters constituted by resistance/condensers combinations 11, 12 and13, 14 and the currents in the low-frequency circuit 5 modulate a carrier of a frequency higher than any in the transmission circuit and are then filtered to remove side-band components corresponding to the frequencies of the other channel and rectified. A voltage derived from the rectified currents is then applied by way of a filter similar to filters 13, 14 to a second grid 39 of a tube 40 in the high-frequency channel to balance out the lowfrequency components that were not stopped by the circuits 13, 14. In a modification, the equivalent of a bandpass filter cutting off at 50 and 60 cycles is obtained by the provision of two circuits like the circuit 5 the outputs of which have ranges of 0-50 and 0-60 cycles. These outputs are fed in opposition to the final circuit. By feeding this combined output in a suitable direction to another circuit from which the original ranges were derived, a band suppression effect may be obtained. Preferably the high-frequency band-pass filter is tunable.
