Abstract
480,444. Modulating systems ; impedance networks. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and LEY, D. A. Aug. 24, 1936, No. 23225. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] In modulating and demodulating arrangements in which the input and output frequency bands are close together, the necessary provision for the avoidance of distortion, that the combined impedance of the input and output circuits as seen from the modulator or demodulator shall be constant over a substantial part of their combined pass ranges, is achieved by the use of two filters which are made complementary by means of suitable fractional terminations. Figs. 1 and 2 show a modulator C having input and output filters A, B, the input and output terminals of the modulator being the same in Fig. 1. The cut-off frequencies of the two filters are adjacent, and they are designed as complementary low and high-pass filters having fractional terminations 7, 8. Fig. 3 shows a demodulator C of which the input circuit includes a valve 6, which is of constant impedance as seen from the demodulator. The low-pass output filter B is provided with a complementary high-pass filter D in parallel, both having fractional terminations 7, 8 in order to render the output impedance constant over the working range.
