[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] In a carrier telephone system in which signals, e.g., dialling signals, are sent by means of the carrier, which is suppressed during speech, the signal currents traverse only a part of the channel filters. As shown, each channel has at the transmitting end a filter section Fl which passes the side-band but not the carrier frequency currents and a filter section F2 which passes both, and the signalling connection is made between these sections. The receiver is. connected between a similar pair of filter sections F4, F3 and includes a filter F5 sharply tuned to the carrier frequency. Fig. 2 shows a preferred form of filter. Preferably the filter sections have a high input impedance looked at from the point at which the signal circuit is connected since this enables the coupling transformer 9 to be replaced by a resistance 11.
