Abstract

493,963. Electric telegraphy. STEVENS, A. H. (Western Union Telegraph Co.) July 5, 1937, No. 18656. [Class 40 (iii)] Distortion of directcurrent telegraph signals received from a cable 10, which is due to increase of attenuation and diminution of phase - displacement with increasing frequency of the signal components, is compensated by the use, as the receiving arm of a duplex bridge, of a circuit 18, 19, 20 tuned to twice the dot frequency and including a series resistance 19, part at least of which serves as output coupling for the circuit. Several similarly tuned sections I, II may be used in cascade, and in order that earth currents may be eliminated while low-frequency signalcomponents are retained, transformers 21, 22 are used and the condensers 18 are shunted by resistances 31. The couplings between sections include potentiometers 19, 25 wherewith the time constants of the transformers can be adjusted.
