Abstract
548,281. Spray evaporators. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. March 27, 1941, No.. 4123. Convention date, March 27, 1940. [Class 32] [Also in Group IV] Liquids, solutions, thermoplastic molten masses, e.g. a plasticized mass of an organic derivative of cellulose (cellulose acetate) are evaporated and/ or dried to produce finely divided solid particles by feeding the liquid on to a moving surface to form a layer of liquid which is dispersed in the form of spray by means of a discontinuous rotating surface, e.g. a brush, wire screen, roller with spring metal fingers which dips into the liquid. The sprayed particles are dried or coagulated by passage through hot or cooled gases or through a precipitating bath. The brush &c. may disperse the liquid while flowing over a rotating roll. Liquid is fed by a pipe 6 between a pair of rotating rolls 7, 8 and the film formed on the roll 8 is sprayed by means of a rotating brush 9 into a precipitating solution 10. Alternatively the liquid may be sprayed into a hot gas current supplied through lines 21, the dried particles being collected at the base of the vessel 16 and removed by a conveyer 25 while the solvent laden air is removed through pipes 22, 23. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 described (Fig. 5 (Cancelled)) a modification in which liquid in a container 35 is sprayed by means of a rotating brush 40. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
