505,934. Making glass fibres. VETROCOKE. Jan. 24, 1938, No. 2292. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1937. [Class 56] In the manufacture of 'glass fibres, the molten material flows through electrically heated orifices 5, one or more of which can be plugged at will, past a cooling device 9 and burners 8 onto a rotary member 10 adjustably mounted on a movable carriage. The member 10 subdivides the streams into fine threads and throws them onto a conveyer (not shown). The quality and quantity of the product may be adjusted by varying the effective number and temperature of the orifices 5 and the position speed and design of the rotary member 10 which may have one or more straight or curved arms in the same or different planes. Several designs of this member are given, Figs. 4 to 7, (not shown). The whole apparatus is enclosed in a chamber which is kept at a suitable temperature by burners, fans or other means.
