Abstract

In forming glass filaments by drawing molten glass through bushing tips which are colled by fins connected to a fluid circulating cooled bar, short term yardage variation in the filaments is prevented by a second cooling bar positioned so as to be adjustable horizontally and vertically in relation to the tips and fins. The extra cooling provides uniform dia. filaments which produce good quality glass fibre fabric. Adjusting the position of the extra cooling bar also allows either a controlled air stream across the tips from above the extra cooling bar on blockage of the air stream when the extra bar contacts the bottom of the bushing.
