Abstract

1,057,686. Coating apparatus. DR. A. WANDER S. A. Sept. 9, 1964 [Sept. 19, 1963], No. 36954/64. Heading B2L. In coating particles, such as tablets, the particles 9 are fed into the interior of a drum 1 supported and rotated by rollers 2 and are sprayed with e.g. a laquer solution from suitable sprayers 14. The interior of the drum is sub-divided by ribs or lamellae 9 into circular tracks the width of the ribs corresponding to from three times the smallest to ten times the largest diameter of particles and the nature of the inner surface of the drum is such that the particles have a considerably greater tendency to slide against each other than against the inner surface of the wall. The ribs, may, as shown, be in the form of a continuous helix, the particles being fed continuously or intermittently in at one end of the drum and out at the other or they may be separate, forming separate compartments with suitable feed and discharge arrangements for the particles. The sprayers 14 are connected to a common compressed-air duct 15 and to individual solution supply ducts 16 with suitable regulating valves &c, provided. Also in the interior of the drum there is a duct 21 for blowing hot air on to the particles and a suction duct 22 for extracting solvent vapours.
