Abstract

1534096 Electrostatic powder-spray coating C MALKMUS-DORNEMANN 18 Nov 1976 [18 Nov 1975] 48159/76 Heading B2L Electrostatic powder-coating apparatus comprises a coating chamber, a conveyor arrangement 9 for transporting substrates therethrough, and a nozzle pipe 5 in the chamber and formed with a plurality of nozzles directed transverse to the transport direction of the substrates, the nozzle pipe being conductive and connected to means for supplying powder in an air stream and also to high voltage source. The substrates may hang from rotatable hooks bearing horizontal pinions which co-operate with a rack 13 to rotate the substrates; more than one nozzle pipe 5 may be provided. The powder falls from a hop- @ into a stream of compressed air and passes to the nozzles; oversprayed powder is collected by suction, filtered and recycled. The top of the nozzle pipes may be sealed, and the internal bores tapered toward the top; the nozzle bores may be conical and divergent. Air curtains may move from nozzles 35 to suction boxes 39 to prevent powder escaping at the ends of the apparatus.
