Abstract
548,049. Heating air. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES), Ltd., S., MOSS, E. B., and RUSSELL, V. J. S. Feb. 21, 1941, No. 2408. [Class 137] An air heater for vehicles and other enclosed spaces comprises a radial flow fan having two sets of radial blades, 12, 13 in volute chambers 21, 22 on opposite sides of an annular plate 17. The blades 12, which are wider than the blades 13, draw air axially partly through a heater 33 surrounding the fan motor and partly through a cold air inlet 24. The air is discharged through a tangential outlet 23. The relative quantities of hot and cold air drawn in are controlled by an axially adjustable disc 29 between the air inlets. The blades 13 discharge hot air from the volute chamber 22 through a tangential outlet 39 leading to a de-frosting device on the windscreen of the vehicle.
