Abstract

547,949. Valve generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and FISH, N. L. YATES-. March 13, 1941, No. 3441. [Class 40 (v)] In a generator for generating a voltage which varies with time by charging or discharging a condenser through a resistor, the condenser is connected to the grid of the first valve of a twostage amplifier comprising two valves having their cathodes connected together and through a common resistor to earth, each having a resistor in its anode circuit, and the second valve having its grid connected to a point of fixed positive potential, voltage variations appearing at the anode load resistor of either valve being introduced in series with the resistor into the charging or discharging circuit to modify the linearity of the saw-tooth voltage. In Fig. 5 saw-tooth oscillations are produced by charging condenser C1 through resistance R from a constant voltage source and discharging it through a gas-discharge or other suitable device T1. The oscillations are applied to the input of a two stage amplifier V1, V2 having a common cathode resistor R1, the grid of V2 being held at a fixed positive potential. A correcting voltage is taken from a tap on R4 (but may be taken from R3) and is applied in series with R and E to modify the linearity of the balanced output which is taken across X7. The invention can also be applied to a blocking oscillator, in which case the correcting voltage, obtained as above, is injected in series with the discharging resistance.
