Abstract

547,845. Trenching ploughs. McLAREN, Ltd., J. & H., BARBER, J. A., and ROSKILLY, W. W March 10, 1941, No. 3218. [Class 6 (i)] A trenching plough comprises a front frame 2 which is mounted on a leading wheel or wheels 8 and is pivoted to a rear frame 1 mounted on rear wheels 7 and carrying a plough share 18, mould-boards 21, side cutters 19 and a centre coulter 20. The pivot 5 is at a point between the rear wheels 7 and plough share 18. An arch 24 mounted on the frame 2 carries a pulley 25 over which runs a rope 26 attached to a winch 23 and the front end of the frame 1. The cutting edges of the side cutters 19 are at the inner edge of each blade. Strickle plates may be attached to the rear of the frame 1 behind the wheels 7 and may be divergent to throw. the soil clear of the wheels 7, or convergent to replace the soil in the trench on the return run of the machine. The use of a single leading wheel 8 enables this to be used for consolidating the soil so replaced.
