Abstract

596,588. Trenching ploughs. CUTHBERTSON, J. A. Dec. 25, 1944, No. 25868. [Class 6 (i)] A trenching plough comprises a central draft beam 1 attached by a vertically-adjustable coupling 2 to the tractor 3. A plough body 4 is attached, adjustably as to angle, having a cutting edge 5 and a concave soil-removing surface 6 leading to a soil-deflecting mouldboard 14. The bottom of the plough body is formed in a longitudinally concave section 28 so that a heel 28a works in the trench bottom, smoothing and consolidating the soil. Cutter discs 7 run in front of the blade 5 cutting the trench side and are carried by arms 8 adjustably connected by a spring bridge member 10, 11 and pivoted by bent shaft 9 on the draw-bar 1. A vertical frame 17 carries road wheels and forwardly extending arms 19 connect frame 18 to a standard 21 mounted on draw-bar 1. A winch and tackle 23, 22 hoists or lowers the plough about coupling point A guided by a rod and sleeve 24, 25. This latter allows vertical freedom to the plough while the mould-board 14 is pivotally mounted so as to run over rough ground.
