Abstract
547,758. Detonators. TAYLOR, J., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 10, 1941. No. 1733. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] Primers of the kind interposed between a detonator and an explosive charge for use in projectiles, bombs, mines and the like and also for use in blasting, comprises a tube 1 with both ends open or one closed, and split longitudinally at its upper portion and provided with protuberances 5 adapted to be engaged by a sliding sleeve 6 to clamp the upper end of the tube about a detonator 9. The lower end of the tube contains the priming charge 7 on the top of which the detonator rests. The assembled device may be inserted in a hole 13 in a body of the explosive 14 or the explosive material may be cast around it. The tube may be of metal, plastic, impregnated paper, vulcanized fibre or the like, and if of metal and the tube and detonator are to be in contact for a long time, it should be made of the same metal as the detonator to avoid galvanic action. The primer explosive may be a mixture of tetryl and trinitrotoluene or erythritol tetranitrate.
