547,526. Magnesium hydroxide. OCEAN SALTS (PRODUCTS), Ltd., and ANDERSON, J. H. Jan. 31, 1941, No. 1305. [Class 1 (iii)] The precipitation of magnesium hydroxide from sea water, brines &c. by means of calcium hydroxide is effected in the presence of a protective colloid and/or reagent capable of keeping calcium carbonate in supersaturated or colloidal solution, whereby a higher degree of purity of the precipitate of magnesium hydroxide is obtained. Sodium hexametaphosphate, glue and casein are suitable additions and are used in the proportion of less than ten parts per million in the case of sea water.
