547,400. Batteries. BURGESS BATTERY CO Nov. 27, 1940, No. 16981. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1939. Drawings to Specification. [Class 53] To prevent corrosion of the zinc anode of a dry cell during inactivity owing to local action or other causes, a wood balsam is used. The anode may be treated with an emulsion, or the balsam may be added to the electrolyte, to the depolarizer, or to the paper sheet separating the anode from the depolarizer. Several suitable wood balsams are specified, e,g., oregon fir balsam. An emulsifying agent, such as triethanolamine or ammonia, may be used to assist the dispersion of the balsam.
