[Class 53] The plates and separators of an accumulator are immersed in the electrolyte and the battery allowed to stand for five to ten days before the first charging operation. The separators may consist of balsa wood which has been subjected to heavy compression or treated with boiling water and alkali. The electrolyte may be sulphuric acid of specific gravity 1.4. Specifications 460,658 and 543,847 are referred to.
