Abstract

547,399. Revolving barrel locks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 21, 1940. No. 16743. Convention date, Nov. 10, 1939. [Class 44] In order that a revolving barrel lock for drawers &c. may be mounted to shoot the bolt in required direction, as horizontally to right or left, or vertically up or down, whilst keeping the keyhole in the usual vertical position, the barrel, bolt retracting member, and casing can be assembled in different relative angular position. Fig. 10 shows the separated parts of a lock for four different assembly positions. The bolt 22, shot by spring 26, is slidable in a rectangular casing 10 with attachment lugs 11 and four notches 15 to receive lugs 14 on a coverplate 13 to which the barrel casing 16 is secured. The barrel 17 with keyhole 21 is shown as housing tumblers of disc or wafer type with locking lugs 18 which can co-operate with any of four grooves 20 in casing 16 so that the barrel may be assembled in required angular position. The bolt-retracting follower 27 has a square aperture 28 which receives a square projection 29 on the inner end of the barrel so that it can be mounted in the angular position requisite for its co-operation with the bolt. The barrel is releasably retained in its casing by a spring-projected member 23 engaging behind a rib 25, and the follewer 27 is retained on projection 29 by the bottom plate of casing 10 which has an aperture 32 for passage of a screw 31 into engagement with a tapped lug 30 on barrel 16 to retain the parts in assembled position.
