Abstract

546,536. Inductor-alternators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., WALKER, J. H., and ADKINS, B. Jan. 16, 1941, No. 594. [Class 35] In a homopolar inductor alternator having approximately two stator slots per phase per rotor pole the flux pulsations due to armature reaction of the ends of the armature-windings within the stator are eliminated by arranging coils on alternate teeth with an unwound tooth on one section of the stator axially opposite a wound tooth on the other sections, so that the current in adjacent ends flows in opposite directions. The rotor teeth are in line, or slightly displaced to improve the wave-form. Specification 483,660 is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes an alternative in which the rotor teeth are displaced so as to be 180 degrees out of phase, a tooth on one section of the rotor being opposite a slot on the other section.
