Abstract
546,434. Chain wheels. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd., and DREW, H. Feb. 11, 1941, No. 1827. [Class, 80 (i)] Consists in chain gearing in which the teeth of the chain wheel are so shaped that the chain is under-pitched when the wheel is driving, and. is over-pitched when it is driving the wheel. According to the invention, the centres of the radii of the roots of the teeth lie on a circle of such radius that the pitch of the centres is greater than the pitch of the chain when the wheel is driving, and lie on some smaller circle whose radius is such that the pitch of the centres is less than the pitch or the chain when the. chain is driving. The wheel 1, Fig. 1, is supposed to be rotating counter-clockwise and to be driving the chain 3. The wheel teeth 2 have faces 5 for driving the chain and faces 6 for being driven thereby. The teeth are so formed that the centres of the radii of the roots on the driving faces 5 lie on a circle of such radius that the pitch of the centres is greater than the pitch of the rollers 4 of the chain, whereas on the faces 6, for driving the wheel, the centres are on a smaller circle so that their pitch is less than the pitch of the rollers 4. In Fig. 2 the chain is driving the wheel.
