Abstract
546,311. Overhead conductors for electric vehicles. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., LONDON PASSENGER TRANSPORT BOARD, BROOM, T. C., and POWELL. H. J. April 15, 1941, No. 4900. [Class 104 (iii)] An overhead switch frog comprises a pair of switches 6, 7 carried by a plate 5 pivoted at 8 to the frog plate 1 and adapted in one position to connect a conductor 2 to a conductor 3, and in the other position to connect 2 to 4. The plate 5 is turned to one position by an electromagnet 15, energized by the collector as it approaches the frog with power on, the armature acting on the pivot 8 through linkwork 18 ...25, pin 9, and arm 12, so that the pin moves from one end of a fixed slot 11 to the other. The switch is returned to normal by the collector engaging a roller 42 and moving the pin 9 to the opposite end of slot 11 through links 40, 38, 32, 29, 30, 34. When pin 9 is in the position of Fig. 4 it is locked by links 30, 34 being in dead centre with respect to pivot 33, and when it is at the opposite end of 11, it is locked by links 19, 25 being in dead centre with respect to pivot 26. One lock is released by the collector as it leaves the frog, the other by the initial movement of the electromagnet. If the latter is not used plate 5 may be turned by means of an arm 90.
