Abstract

546,305. Cathode-ray tubes. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. Feb. 18, 1941, No. 2220. Convention date, Jan. 19, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] A beam from electron gun 21, 23, 231 is deflected by magnetic coils 25, 26 in two directions at right angles over the mosaic target 8. The whole tube is immersed in the axial magnetic focusing field of coil 19 so that the beam strikes the target at right angles and at low velocity. Electrons corresponding in number to the charges developed by the light image on the target return through the scanning means along the same path as the scanning beam and are collected by output electrode 29 which may be apertured to form the first electrode of an electron multiplier 12. In order to separate the outgoing and returning beams and to enable the collector 29 to be made small, a pair of beam deflecting plates 27, 28 is provided to give a fixed deflection to both beams as shown at a and b.
