Abstract

546,191. Spark-plug insulators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 18, 1941, No. 3680. Convention date, April 23, 1940. Addition to 481,769. [Class 22] Spark-plug insulators of the kind described in the parent Specification are prepared from a mixture of 95 per cent. alumina, 3¢ per cent. zircon and 1¢ per cent. talc, or substances yielding the same chemical composition. The raw materials are finely ground, moulded with the aid of a thermo-plastic resin and fixed at 1530-1730‹C. Alumina is introduced as calcined alumina, diaspore or bauxite or in the combined form as clay, silimanite, magnesium aluminate or magnesium aluminium silicate. Zirconia is added as such or as zircon or magnesium zirconium silicate. Magnesium is added as such or as carbonate, or forsterite. Silica may be added in crystalline, amorphous or combined form.
