Abstract

Refractories comprising mullite and corundum crystals with a cordierite matrix are made by fusing a mix containing alumina, silica and magnesia and subtantially free from alkali. Examples refer to mixes comprising (a) alumina 65 per cent, silica 28 per cent and magnesia 7 per cent, and (b) alumina 70 per cent, silica 25 per cent and magnesia 5 per cent. Specification 409,315 is referred to.
