Abstract

545,833. Unit air conditioner. ELLIS, H. S., and NEWHAVEN ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Sept. 27, 1940, No. 14628. [Class 137] [Also in Group XI] A portable unit apparatus for conditioning air by heating, moistening, filtering and disinfecting or perfuming, comprises a casing 1 in which is mounted a fan 6 driven by an electric motor 7 and by which air is drawn through a filter 2 and discharged past a perforated tube 10 containing a wick 9 saturated with the disinfectant or perfume and through a resistance heater 13 and louvres 4 in a detachable frame 5. Spare wicks 91 and tubes 101 are housed in containers 12. The air is moistened by a steam jet 15 fed from a boiler 16 provided with an immersion heater 17. Separate switches 21, 22, 23 control the current supplied to fan, heater,.and immersion heater, so that two or more fan speeds and various heater temperatures may be provided. The resistance wire in the heater may be mounted on insulators 14 supported at each end on spindles 24, the upper msulator being fixed to the spindles and the lower one a loose fit, being urged away from the upper insulator by springs 25 to take up the slack in the resistance wire 13.
