Abstract

1324304 Air purifiers AEROPUR SA 19 Aug 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 39007/71 Heading B2J [Also in Division F4] An air purifier for removing dust and for sterilizing bacteria &c comprises a duct with opposed walls over which water or other liquid is made to flow, means for blowing or sucking air through the duct, an electrode assembly suspended in the duct between said walls and a high voltage DC generator connected to the electrode assembly, the electrode assembly being formed in two sections, the first section comprising spaced plates extending transversely to the air flow through the duct and the other section comprising flat plates parallel to the air flow. In a first embodiment (Fig. 1), a fan 1 draws air through a duct formed by walls 4 over which water runs from a distributer 6. The electrode assembly 3, 5 comprises a lower portion 3 with serrated plates p (Figs. 2 and 3 not shown) and an upper portion with flat plates 5a. The high voltage generator is shown at 8. The expelled air may be heated at 10. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4), the electrode is U-shaped with the two sections 3 and 5 on separate legs. A heater 12 for the water is provided so as to control humidity. The first embodiment may be modified (Fig. 5, not shown) to serve as an air purifier above a cooker or work bench and may include means for perfuming or disinfecting the water. An active carbon filter may be provided at the outlet to absorb any residual ozone. The electrodes may be covered with insulator elements 15, 16 (Fig. 6, not shown).
