Abstract

545,642. Goggles. COWELL, S. G. Feb. 5, 1941, No. 1513. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group VII] A face shield for wear with a steel helmet when fire-fighting comprises a flexible screen 1 of stout canvas impregnated with fire proofing solution, formed with a viewing aperture large enough to accommodate both eyes and filled with fine mesh wire gauze 3. To the upper edge of the shield are secured two cords, 5, 6 between which the edge of the helmet is engaged. A clip 7 is provided which is engaged over the rim of the helmet opposite the shield to receive cords which are arranged above and below the rim, respectively, and tied. When not required the screen may be turned up over the crown and its free corners provided with a co-operating hook and eye. Alternatively the helmet may be worn back to front.
