Abstract

319,511. Haswell, F. T. Oct. 10, 1928; Helmets.-A fireman's helmet comprises a rigid skelton framework having a front approximately cylindrical portion arranged with its axis substantially horizontal, so that it may surround' the wearer's face, and rearwardly extending side members arranged to more or less cover the sidesof the head this framework being covered with fireproof fabric forming a protection to the head and neck. A fireproof window is provided. Stout gauge galvanized wire ovals 1 connected by cross wires support side extensions 3 comprising wire loops filled with reticulated construction 4. Asbestos pads 5 surround the face, and an asbestos cloth hood 6 covers the remainder of the framework. Behind the pads 5 a brown basil yoke 5<1> padded with cotton wool terminates in velvet facings 5<2>. An outer covering 7 of stout cowhide is provided, and frames carrying detachable windows 9 of splinterless and fireproof glass. A padded spring 11 engages the back of the head and may be adjusted by a slot and wing-nut 13. A controllable air valve 14 is provided.
