Abstract
545,147. Refrigerators. McKENZIE, W. C., and LEYLAND & CO., Ltd., F. Dec. 16, 1941, No. 16202. [Classes 29 and 64 (ii)] The heat insulation of ships and other cold storage chambers is made in preformed sections, each comprising a rigid wood or other border frame d, from facing panels e, f of metal, plywood &c. and a filling g of granular cork &c. the joints between sections being covered by sealing strips k secured by screws, preferably with interposed heat insulation set in mastic. Where the sections are applied between ribs b of the ship's side the section are provided at one or both sides with fabric tubes h filled with granular cork &c., which are compressed to enable the sections to be placed in position. Bolts l welded or riveted to the ribs support channel irons m and vertical and horizontal dunnage battens p, q. The sections are spaced from the wall a by distance rails i, and conduits for air circulation may be formed in the sections. The insulating sections are used without the fabric tubes when applied to bulkheads, as shown in Fig. 4.
