Abstract
544,738. Tipping-vehicles; rest-bars. GRAY, E. T. Y. Aug. 6, 1940, No. 12647. [Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii)] Two-wheeled trailers that are adapted to be tipped for discharging the contents, with respect to the draw-bar as described in Specification 530,153, are provided with means for supporting the body to take the load off the draw-bar to facilitate hitching the trailer to the tractor. The support may serve also for holding the trailer in the tipping position. As shown, a support 4 of angle section is pivoted at 2 to the front end 1 of the vehicle and is provided with a curved foot 5 whereby upon moving the vehicle forward a short distance after placing the support in the chain-line position, the load is taken thereby. The support may also serve to hold the body in a number of tipped 'positions by inserting a pin 13 through one of a number of holes 12 in the support and an aperture in the draw-bar 7. When not required for use the support may be detached and be carried by the draw-bar by means of the pin 13 and a hook 14. A prop 9 for holding the draw-bar in the coupling position may be provided and be normally carried by the draw-bar in the chain-line position. The support as shown is positioned near one side of the draw-bar but supports may instead or in addition be provided at the front corners of the vehicle. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 239,774 and 247,770, [both in Class 79 (iii)].
