Abstract

544,271. Closures for bottles. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. April 19, 1941, No. 5091. Convention date, July 11, 1940. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure adapted to seal a bottle or other receptacle containing a gas liberating substance, has a resilient liner 8 held in position upon the receptacle mouth by a cover 5 screwed on the neck. A channel 9 runs across the exposed face of the liner, and when the cover is screwed home to the sealing position the portions of the channel in the sealing zone are closed by the deformation of the liner. When excessive internal pressure develops, the deformed parts open and act as a relief valve; after the pressure is relieved the liner reseals the bottle. The channel may be V-shaped in section, or rounded, and may only extend through the sealing area. Two channels at right angles may be provided.
