544,062. Tanks. WIGGINS, J. H. Dec. 7, 1939, No. 6649/41. Divided out of 543,884. [Class 69 (i)] A container for storing liquids has a floating roof, a shoe or shoes adapted to act as a unit on the wall of the container, and presser devices forcing the shoe or shoes outwardly against said wall, the presser devices being arranged so that approximately one-half thereof exert a circumferential pressure on the shoe or shoes opposite to the circumferential pressure exerted by the remaining devices. The shoe A may comprise a split ring with the gap closed by fabric. The presser devices comprise bent arms 20 pivoted in stuffing boxes 18 in a sealed annular space x around the roof and engaging presser bars D<SP>1</SP> bearing against the inner side of the shoe ; springs 21 cause pressure to be exerted on the bars D<SP>1</SP> and the two sets of pressure devices are so arranged that their circumferential pressure tends to open the gap between the ends of the shoe.
