Abstract

543,676. Transfers. MACLAURIN, J. Aug. 1, 1940, No. 12463. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1939. [Class 100 (ii)] A transfer is printed on a sized backing sheet impregnated with a wetting agent adapted to facilitate the release of the transfer upon the application of water thereto. Suitable wetting agents are sulphonated higher alcohols such as Gardinal or Nekal, sulphonated oils, sulphonated esters of dicarboxylic acid and their sodium salts, methyl esters of high molemlar weight alcohols, acids and lactones, fatty acid salts of amino-substituted aliphatic alcohols and their isomers, and sodium salts of sulphonated lauryl and myristal collamide. These agents are applied to the transfer paper in solution in alcohol, acetone, benzol or ethyl acetone and may be applied before or after the application of the adhesive coating on which the design is printed, the sheet being dried between the two applications. Preferably, however, the adhesive coating is applied to one side of the sheet and, immediately after, the solution of wetting agent is applied to the opposite side of the sheet. U.S.A.
