Abstract

542,964. Synthetic resin emulsions. SOC. DES USINES CHIMIQUES RHONEPOULENC. June 29, 1940, No. 11071. Convention date, June 29, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] An aqueous emulsion of a polyvinyl derivative containing a plasticizer is used for coating foils of cellulose acetate or aceto-butyrate, ethyl cellulose or regenerated cellulose. Suitable polyvinyl derivatives are polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl formal prepared by condensing polyvinyl alcohol with formaldehyde in a mixture of dichlorethane and alcohol. Suitable plasticizers include triacetin, diacetin, glycol ethers and esters and butyl phthalate. The emulsions may be made with the aid of protective colloids such as methyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol or a. partially saponified polyvinyl derivative, and emulsifying agents such as sodium isobutylnaphthalene sulphonate.
