Abstract

542,878. De-icing aircraft. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and ENGLAND, E. C. G. June 28, 1940, No. 11018. [Class 4] For preventing ice accumulations on aircraft a system of intersecting inflatable tubes is arranged beneath a layer of flexible material covering the part subject to such accumulations. As shown a system of spanwise and chordwise tubes 8, is arranged within a bag 5 of flexible material stretched over the leading edge of a wing where it is secured by taut wires 6 and fairing strips 10. Additional securing strips 11 are provided between the chordwise tubes. Air or liquid is caused to pulsate in the tube system to crack off any ice formed on the leading edge, and the air or liquid may also be heated.
