Abstract

542,603. Stereoscopes. KODAK, Ltd. May 5, 1941, No. 5853. Convention date, June 12, 1940. [Class 97 (i)] A stereoscope comprises a member 6 carrying the slide 3, and a member 7 telescopically slidable therein carrying lens tubes 2 angularly adjustable to vary the inter-ocular distance. The member 6 has a plate 38 formed with windows housing frosted glass 40, and carries springs 42 pressing the slide- 3 against a front plate 11 having picture-framing apertures 15; the slide is inserted into position through a slot 41 to stress springs 48 pressing it against a shoulder 50, and finger recesses 51, 52 permit removal by pushing the slide from under the shoulder and grasping it when it has been raised by the springs 48. The member 7 has lugs 8 extending into grooves 9 in the member 6, and is slidable for focusing by means of a rotatable knob 20 secured to an externally threaded sleeve 22 engaging an integrally threaded sleeve 16 secured to the plate 11. The tubes 2 are formed with arcuate lugs 24, 25 engaged with arcuate recesses in the member 7 by arcuate springs 28, and have flared portions 30 engaging shoulders 31, 32 in the front of the member 7; this mounting permits angular movements of the tubes 2 about points in the pictures for inter-ocular adjustments, the tubes being formed with inter-engaging teeth above and below the sleeve 16 causing each to move equally and oppositely to the other when either is adjusted. A lamp house 4 may be secured, when desired, to the member 6 by screws 53 and contains a lamp 57, and a shield 56 reflecting the light to reflecting surfaces 58 and thence to the slide. The lamp holder may be carried by a handle removably secured to the lamp house, and the handle may have slots therein adjustably to receive rods extending from a stand by which the apparatus may be supported.
