Abstract

536,706. Telescopes. KODAK, Ltd. March 8, 1940, No. 4347. Convention date, May 10, 1939. [Class 97 (i)] A variable power view finder for use with a camera using interchangeable objectives has a field defining diaphragm opening of fixed size and shape such that it limits the image exactly to that produced in the camera when the magnification corresponds to the focal length of the objective in use. Its optical system comprises a fixed lens 22 adjacent the eyepiece 20, an objective 23, and two simultaneously movable collective lenses 24, 25. The position of the lens 24 is continuously adjustable from within the focus of the lens 23 to a point beyond the focus, and its movements, and simultaneous movement of the lens 25, may be effected by slots 15, 16 in a rotatable sleeve 12, the slots being in engagement with pins 13, 14 projecting from the lens rims through longitudinal slots 17, 18 in a tube 11. The front lens 23 may be adjustable for focusing objects at different finite distances. The final image produced by the lenses 23, 24, 25 may be real or virtual and at a finite or infinite distance, and the image thereof produced by the lens 22 is formed in the fixed aperture of a diaphragm 21. Notches in the edges of the slots 15, 16, or other stops, or a scale adjacent the slots, may indicate the positions of the lenses 24, 25 appropriate to the camera objective in use.
