542,453. Fluid-pressure brakes. JOHNSON, M. E. Sept. 4, 1940, No. 13848. Addition to 450,697. [Class 103 (i)] In a control valve for servomotor brake mechanism according to the parent Specification, the valve piston that controls the port connected to the source of power, is provided with a deformable packing member serving to prevent leakage between the source of power and the servomotor in the closed position of the valve and between the servomotor and the atmosphere in the open position. The valve, slidable in a casing p, comprises a piston a<SP>2</SP> a tapered part b and a washer e of hard rubber or synthetic rubber secured by a screw d and a washer h on a boss c. The washer normally seats at f on the casing to close the communication of between the ports g, l of the servomotor and the source of power. The washer h serves to restrict the initial opening of this communication and by tightening the screw d, the washer e can be expanded in diameter to fit more or less tightly the casing part j when it enters this part in the operating of the valve after the communication between the servo-motor and atmosphere ports g, l has been initially restricted by the tapered part b. The valve may be operated as described in the parent Specification by hydraulic pressure acting through a pipe o on a piston s provided with a cup-leather s<SP>2</SP> and an expanding washer s<SP>3</SP> or it may be inserted in a divided pull or push rod one part of which is substituted for the pipe o while the other is secured to the valve at a<SP>1</SP> or to the casing at p<SP>1</SP>.
