Abstract

593,479. Fluid-actuated valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 18, 1944, No. 25385. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1943. [Class 135] A pressure-regulating valve in which a motor port can be connected to either a pressure port or an exhaust port has separate inlet and exhaust valves, the former being movable from its seat by the latter and being connected to a plunger-like extension which reduces the effective area on which the supply pressure acts and also to a further pressure-responsive element which acts, under the pressure at the motor port, to urge the inlet valve to closed position. This arrangement reduces the manual effort required to open the inlet valve and prevents the inlet valve from remaining permanently open when relatively high pressures are required at the motor port. Fig. 2 shows a self-lapping valve 16 for controlling fluidpressure brakes which has an inlet port 29 connected to an accumulator or other source of pressure, a port 30 connected to the brakeoperating cylinder and an exhaust port 31. The inlet valve 32, Fig. 3, and the exhaust valve 33 are arranged in an insert 36 screwed into the valve casing and are operated through a piston 34 and a compression spring 54 by a rod 28 actuated by the brake pedal. The piston is in two parts secured together by a hollow bolt 52. A diaphragm 51 is clamped between the two parts and also to the wall of the valve casing. The inlet valve 32 has a piston 61 loosely connected thereto by a pin 63 moving in a hole in the valve stem 64. The piston 61 preferably has a diameter slightly less than that of the inlet valve seat 35 and operates in a bore 62. The inlet valve is also connected to a piston 71 operating in a bore 40 connected to the motor port 30 by ports 47. The exhaust valve has a seat 41 on the piston 34 and is loosely retained by a. flanged nut 44. A stem 39 on the piston 71 extends into a guide opening 43 in the exhaust valve. Specification 562,871 is referred to.
