Abstract

542,021. Air guns. WEBLEY & SCOTT, Ltd., and SMALLWOOD, H. W. Aug 26, 1940, Nos. 13448/40 and 827/41. [Class 119] An air gun is provided with alternate positions of retraction for the piston in order that the energy of discharge may be adjusted according to the range required, and the sear lever is so mounted that the friction during retraction of the piston is a minimum. The invention is described as applied to an air rifle having a two sear mechanism as described in Specification 526,502. The piston 8 and rod 7 is actuated by a coiled spring 15 on discharge and the piston is retracted by the usual lever mechanism when the gun is broken so that one of two notches 7a or 7b is engaged by the projection 3a of the primary sear lever 3. This lever has its cross shaft 4 supported at its ends by springs 6 so that as the rod 7 is being retracted the sear lever moves bodily away from it under spring resistance. The primary sear lever is retained in engaged position by a lip 11a on the secondary sear lever 11 which is released by pressure on the trigger 14 so that the primary sear lever is released.
